Le Washington Post ne croit pas que le temps soit venu pour la construction "d'un futur plus encourageant" au Proche-Orient, comme l'a dit la secrétaire d'Etat, Condoleezza Rice, vendredi aux Nations unies. Au contraire, le quotidien américain considère qu'à ce stade, les grands perdants sont le peuple libanais, le gouvernement israélien et la lutte antiterroriste menée par l'administration Bush. Une image qui s'est encore détériorée dans les pays arabes, "en partie à cause de longues négociations qui ont été perçues (...) comme une tactique pour permettre à Israël d'atteindre ses objectifs militaires, à l'aide d'armes américaines", rapporte le Post, citant un analyste.
